Day Three - "Rest" Day

So far our trip has been amazing! Today is technically speaking our day of rest. But…we ended up filling it up with a lot of fun stuff. Yet it was still relaxing. I guess we are just busy bodies when it comes to our vacations.

So I forgot to mention in the earlier posts, that we had a “pet” duck who Christopher named “Mitch.” Mitch hung out with us on our patio at the resort each morning while we had our morning coffee. We felt that Mitch thought we were lonely and missing Marv. It was pretty cute. Sometimes we would hear Mitch quacking at us through the door.

Tonga Toast!
We started our day with breakfast at Kona Cafe in the Polynesian Resort. This was our first visit to Kona Cafe for breakfast. Everyone recommended it - especially the Tonga Toast. We hoped on a bus to Magic Kingdom then took the monorail to the Poly. Wow - the Polynesian resort is beautiful. It is undergoing a lot of renovations - can't wait to see the end result including...the new DVC rooms! We may just buy in there too ;) The new additions include these over the water bungalows that look amazing. And the resort is updating their lobby area. I was sad not to see the waterfalls, but excited to see the upgrade.

Christopher's HUGE Breakfast platter. I think it was called the Big Kahuna.
Well breakfast was amazingly delicious. Our waitress reminded us of our cousin's wife, Maja - she was super nice and spunky. I ordered the Tonga Toast and Christopher ordered the HUGE breakfast platter - both of which are Kona Cafe's well known breakfast dishes. And we both ordered Kona coffee. Mmm delicious. The Tonga Toast is like a French toast. It is two thick pieces of sourdough bread filled with bananas and then cooked and coated in cinnamon sugar. Christopher's platter had bacon, sausage, ham, eggs, 2 pancakes with a pineapple and macadamia nut butter and 2 pieces of french toast plus breakfast potatoes. We both cleaned our plates!

Love riding the Monorail

After breakfast we took the monorail to Epcot. We then walked through Epcot to our resort. On our way we stopped to watch a street act in the England Pavilion. This group was really funny and called "King Arthur and the Holy Grail." It was so funny and the volunteers from the audience were great too!

We then changed and headed to the pool! It was a HOT day out. The scary thing was...it was only going to get hotter as the week progressed! Craziness!

The "quiet" pool area - one of our favorite hang out spots at the resort.
After sunbathing and swimming, we headed to Downtown Disney to do our shopping and gift buying for family. We got almost all of our shopping done - which was a great feeling only three days into the trip. And with the delivery to the hotel, it was perfect. We are going to do this going forward for the rest of our trips. Usually we wait until the last day and then we are lugging all of the stuff around and trying to cram it into our luggage.

We ate lunch at Wolfgang Puck Express and shared a cheese and pesto pizza over some red wine. It was really nice to sit and relax for a bit. We ate on the restaurant's back patio - which was isolated and a little bit removed from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Disney.

My hubby :)
We walked all over Downtown Disney and even tried out Disney Quest. At Disney Quest, we both built our own roller coasters and then rode in a flight simulator to test them out. It was pretty cool. Christopher and I played some air hockey and I kicked his ass. The Disney Quest experience was okay. It is probably great for kids but it was okay for adults. I wouldn't go out of the way to do it again but admission is included with our annual pass, so we figured why not try it out. Neither of us have ever been inside.

After we shopped til we dropped, we headed back to the resort for some dinner. Christopher picked Big River Brewing Company to try some beers. We were able to sit outside on the Boardwalk which was so much fun and great for people watching. We did have an entertaining table sitting next to us that allowed their children to run around crazily, swinging toy swords and whacking other guests, including Christopher. Well karma got the best of the kids because one of them tripped on a chair and fell into our table. Then screamed bloody murder for mom.

Dinner was okay. Christopher ordered the hot pepper dip and Mahi Mahi sandwich for dinner. He also indulged in the beer sample and a triple chocolate cake. I ordered a sangria, beer cheese soup and their special chicken - a hazelnut crusted chicken with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The mashed potatoes were super lumpy but the chicken was pretty good. The soup was okay - very plain. Christopher had similar feelings about his food too. Dip was not spicy at all and was bland but his sandwich was delicious.

We were able to catch a partial view of Illuminations from our table. It was a nice and relaxing night. It was almost okay that the service was slow at the restaurant because we could enjoy more of the Boardwalk and people watch.

We hit the bed as soon as we got back and got some rest for Day 4 at Epcot.
