Our December Disney Trip - Day 1

Day 1 at Walt Disney World was a blast. We took the very early flight out of Buffalo (6 am) and arrived into Orlando at 8:30. Soon we were on our way to the Villas at the Grand Floridian Resort. Because we arrived so early our room was not yet ready, but that was okay because we headed straight to the parks.

On a side note - the technology Disney is using through the Magic Bands is simple incredible! They knew when we were arriving at the resort because we swiped our bands before boarding the bus and then had someone there to personally greet us and had all of our information ready and someone waiting to take our bags. It was really incredible!

Our DVC home resort is the Grand and it was our first time visiting and staying there. Wow is it incredible. All of the fountains and chandeliers are amazing. It truly is a "Grand" experience.

Before heading to Magic Kingdom, we walked through the main lobby area of the main hotel and found a HUGE Christmas tree and a lifesize gingerbread house. The air smelled so Christmasy and totally got un in the spirit.

We then monorailed it over to MK for the rest of the afternoon. The Christmas decorations were breathtaking. I was in decoration heaven. Christopher joked that next year I will "plus it" (meaning the decorations at our home) just as Walt would tell his imagineers.

We really enjoyed just walking around and taking in all of the people, sounds and scents. We had lunch at Cosmic Rays for the first time and LOVED it. We split a 1/2 baked chicken with green beans and fries. It was definitely enough for two people - so glad we split it.

We also caught some attractions including the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Coaster. The technology used in the ride was really cool. The ride cars actually rock as if you were in an actual mine car. And the animatronics were amazing in the ride. So glad we Fast Passed it because I would not wait in line for two hours to ride it. It was good, but not that amazing. I think my favorite coaster is still Space Mountain.

Above I mentioned amazing technology with the Magic Bands. Well...Disney will not sync your ride photos to your My Disney Experience account! No more waiting to check out your photo - it is already sitting in your account and you can purchase it later if you like it. Crazy right?

The weather while we were there was enjoyable (if you ask me) and a little brisk (if you ask Christopher). I actually liked it being a little colder than what we were used to. We usually go when it is in the 80's or 90's and I think it can become unbearable during the afternoon.

Our room was ready in the afternoon, so we took off to check it out. WOW oh Wow. Our villa had a gorgeous and HUGE bathroom with a standing shower, vanity area, and then a regular soaking tub with shower attachment. The bedroom/living area was large too. I loved all of the wood accents, tray ceiling, fabrics, etc. It all felt so luxurious.

For dinner we headed to one of our favorite spots at Epcot - Spice Road Table. We shared some appetizers, two pitchers of sangria (again - I know) and watched Illuminations from our table. It was so wonderful. We ended up sitting outside on their patio because they had these powerful, portable heaters out. Our thick Buffalo blood definitely kept us warm and we had an enjoyable experience dining al fresco.
