Picking the perfect time to go to Walt Disney World can seem daunting, especially if you are not limited to a certain week or time of year.
In a perfect scenario, you would want to go when the weather is moderate and the parks are not crowded. But, you may also want to schedule your vacation during a special event to enhance your vacation experience.
If you are looking to pair your vacation with a special event at Disney, be prepared for longer wait times, but also know that during the busier times at Disney, the parks tend to have extended hours.
Some Special Events include (subject to change without notice by WDW):
January - Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend
February - Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend
March/April/May - Epcot's Flower & Garden Festival
May/June - Star Wars Weekends
September/October - Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party
September/October/November - Epcot's Food & Wine Festival
October - The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler Weekend
November/December - Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party
November - Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend
Note that most of the special events require either a special event ticket or a park pass to enjoy the event.
If mild temperatures and low crowds are more your style, then here are some suggested times of the year:
January/early February - for cooler weather and low crowds
Late April - miss the spring break crowds, but still have warm weather
End of August - Thanksgiving - for warm weather and less crowds (watch for holiday weekends - Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, etc - those weekends will be crowded)
Early December - for cooler weather, smaller crowds, yet still enjoy the Christmas decor at the parks
If you are very concerned about the crowd situation, you can subscribe to TouringPlans.com to view their crowd calendar to plan the best time to visit the parks.
No matter when you plan your trip, your vacation is going to be magical no matter what!
